prevalence reduction innovation forum

The Prevalence Reduction Innovation Forum (PRIF) initiative intends to build a global community of researcher-learners in the science of human trafficking prevalence estimation, with a focus on documenting the robustness of various methodological approaches in human trafficking prevalence research.

This effort is a collaboration between the U.S. Department of State Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, CenHTRO, and the Hard-to-Reach Population Methods Research Group (HPMRG). Funded by  the U.S. State Department’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (TIP Office), PRIF has two main aims: 


  • To document the robustness of various methodological approaches in human trafficking prevalence research. 
  • To identify and build the capacity of human trafficking teams in the design, testing, and dissemination of human trafficking prevalence data. 
The first forum was held in May 2020 and brought together close to 1,000 participants from across the world in interrogating current human trafficking prevalence estimation methods. The initial forum and subsequent virtual conferences are available to stream on CenHTRO's YouTube page. 

Since 2000, six U.S.-based grantees began validating various prevalence estimation methods through research projects in global trafficking hotspots. At a forum in 2023, the teams will present and assess findings.
